October 2009 ArchivesThe bye week allowed Washington State to hit the "reset button" (a common term used at practice this week) They were able to get healthy and take a break from the grind of a game week. Now, the resting is over, they have to jump right back into the fire against California on Saturday in Berkley. The Golden Bears were ranked as high as 6th in the country earli... I hate bye weeks, but I am a selfish fan. I really missed Cougar football this weekend (I don't care if they are 1-5). It just didn't feel right without a WSU game to watch or listen to. I also got really tired of hearing the joke, "At least Wazzu didn't lose this week" (I'm sure you heard it too). On the other hand, the football team embraced the bye week. It's become a little clichéd to hear players and coaches say that it was nice t... It's easy to get down on the Washington State football team. The Cougars are just 1-5 this year, losers in 16 of their last 19 games. But there is good news out there...WSU is getting better. The Cougars are trying to bounce back from a 52-6 loss to Oregon last weekend, their first blowout loss of the season. Kickoff against the Sun Devils is set for 2pm at Martin Stadium. WSU wide receiver Jeffrey Solomon told me this wee... Washington State was hard at work on the practice fields on Wednesday. The Cougars are getting ready to take on Arizona State this weekend in Pullman (kickoff scheduled for 2pm). It's Homecoming on the Palouse. WSU was handed an embarrassing 52-6 loss by Oregon last weekend, but that didn't keep the Cougars from coming out motivated on Wednesday... Going up against nationally ranked opponents is the norm in the Pac-10. The Cougars played No. 12 USC last week (the Trojans jumped to No. 7 after the 27-6 win), now WSU plays No. 16 Oregon at Autzen Stadium (the most hostile environment in the Pac-10). I'm a little surprised the Ducks are ranked as high as they are by the Associated Press (Oregon ... Washington State faces another huge test this weekend. The Cougars play Oregon at Autzen Stadium (one of the most ferocious atmospheres in the Pac-10) on Saturday night. You can see why many people think the odds are stacked against Wazzu. The Ducks have pounded the Cougs over the last three years, outscoring Washington State 150-44 over that time period. Add to that, WSU is starting a true freshman at quarterback for the first time si... |
