It's finally game week on the Palouse and I can't be more excited! I'll be at practice today as the Washington State football team prepares for their season opener against Stanford. I'll be tweeting from Pullman (be sure to follow me @TLKREM2) with all the latest, I'll also have live reports on our five and six o'clock shows, and I'll have a fresh "Wednesday Practice Report" blog later tonight (just like I have in years past). An interesting tidbit popped up at practice yesterday. Bud Withers of The Seattle-Times reported that Kevin Lopina could take every snap against the Cardinal, "If he plays extremely well, he may stay in the whole game," Wulff said. WSU's head coach finished his comment by saying that if Lopina plays "OK" (which will likely be the case), Marshall Lobbestael will play as well. That's a little bit different than what he said on Sunday when he said Lobbestael "will rotate in after a couple of series." Again, be sure to check back here later on tonight for a full practice report from today. Moving on to former Cougars. The Seahawks waived wide receiver Michael Bumpus yesterday. He'll likely get picked up by someone (probably as a special teams guy), but who knows. In another move, the Chiefs placed wide receiver Devard Darling on Injured Reserve. That means he will not play in 2009. Darling tore his ACL in last week's preseason game against Seattle. I'm bouncing all over...now to a completely different sport. Five members of the Washington State baseball team were named top prospects for the 2009 summer collegiate leagues by Baseball America. Left-handed pitcher Adam Conley was ranked No.7 and right-hander Chad Arnold was No. 8 in the New England Collegiate Baseball League. Southpaw Rusty Shellhorn was No. 9 in the Prospect League while playing for the North Coast Knights in Lorain, Ohio. In the West Coast League, right-handed pitcher Seth Harvey was No. 7 and outfielder Kyle Johnson was No. 10. I love to say this...the future looks bright for WSU baseball! Finally, I just wanted to pass along that Butch is back in the Capital One Bowl Mascot Challenge (thanks Chief). He won back in 2007. Be sure to vote! That's it for now! Go Cougs!!! |
