February 2009 ArchivesThis is the most excited I've been about the Washington State men's basketball team since the beginning of the season. They are playing like a team possessed to make the postseason. It wasn't always pretty (the Cougs trailed by as many as 11 in the first half), but Washington State used a huge second half to barrel past Arizona on Thursday. It was easily the best half of basketball the Cougars have played in the Pac-10 this year. They ... It's hard to believe, but the Washington State men's basketball team wraps up its home schedule this week against Arizona and Arizona State. The Cougars (14-13, 6-9 in the Pac-10) play the Wildcats first on Thursday. Arizona (18-9, 8-6) is not the same team they were at the beginning of the year (they are much better). They were riding a seven game winning streak before falling to Arizona State on Saturday. Washington State was... Washington State's hopes of making a late season run in the Pac-10 took a major hit Thursday night with a loss to USC. The Cougars trailed by as many as 15 points early in the first half, but fought back after the break to get within one. The Trojans proved to be too much in the end, going 9-for-10 from the free throw line in the final five minutes of the game to secure the victory. Wazzu is now 13-13 on the season and 5-9 in ... The Washington State men's basketball team is gearing up for a late Pac-10 run. Wazzu is 13-12 overall and 5-8 in the conference (good enough for seventh place right now). They're coming off an embarrassing loss (at least I thought it was) to Oregon State on Saturday...and it doesn't get any easier from here. The Cougars play two games this week in Los Angeles, starting with USC (15-9, 6-6 in the conference) on Thursday and the... The Washington State University men's basketball team picked up a much needed win on Thursday night against Oregon. The Cougars pounded the Ducks, 67-38. The 38 points WSU surrendered are the fewest they've allowed in a Pac-10 game since 1988. "It felt really good to win," Taylor Rochestie said after the game. "Right now, it comes down to, we're having fun and we're getting better as a team, but we need to win some more games." The Washington State University men's basketball team has a great opportunity to get its season back on track. The Cougars (12-11 overall; 4-7 in the Pac-10) play Oregon and Oregon State this week in Pullman. The two teams are a combined 16-29 overall and 4-18 in conference play. Wazzu starts with Oregon on Thursday. The Ducks are the weaker of the two Oregon schools. They are 6-17 altogether and 0-11 in the Pac-10. We talked ... Washington State's Bay Area road swing got off to a terrible start Thursday night against Stanford. The Cardinal avenged their January 10th loss to the Cougars with a 65-54 win in Palo Alto. Wazzu went away from what they do well...play defense. I know it's weird to say that when they allowed only 65 points, but Stanford shot nearly 55% from the floor. That shooting percentage is the worst allowed by WSU all season. Offensively... This is a huge week for the Washington State men's basketball team. It's the start of the second half of the Pac-10 season. The Cougars (currently 4-5 in the conference...three-and-a-half-games out of first) will either be 6-5, 5-6, or 4-7 by Saturday night. I know you can add this up yourself, but I just wanted you to see those records in front of you. Two losses in the Bay Area this week could bury the Cougs. But, why be a pe... The Washington State University football team is holding a National Letter of Intent Signing Day Party...and you're invited. Would you like to be one of the first to learn about the 2009 Washington State University football signing class? Or do you want to meet head coach Paul Wulff? Here's your chance. Just head to Northern Quest Casino in Airway Heights on Wednesday (February 4th). Wulff will discuss each m... |
