| Updated: Cougars Downed By Baylor, 45-17 »
I'm still trying to figure it out. Most of my sources are still telling me "it's a game time decision" (and I actually believe them). One of the people I talked to recently spoke with Kevin Lopina. When asked if he was starting, Lopina said, "I think so, but I don't really know." Lopina took the majority of snaps with the first team this week at practice. Like I mentioned before, that makes sense because the coaches wanted to get a good look at him (they've already seen plenty of Rogers in practice and games). If Rogers is starting, I'd be a little worried that he won't be game ready (because he wasn't as involved at practice). Not to be a jerk (I understand these are college kids), but I think the starter (in this case) needs as many snaps as possible in practice. Joe Kane...thanks for the comment: "Hope this qb situation figures itself out real quickly. I still think Rogers deserves more time and should be starting this week regardless of the past two games. Those games were a disaster from every aspect of the team, not just Gary. One more game then discuss a change if it doesnt work out against Baylor." I think you're right, but I don't think it's going to happen. My gut feeling tells me that Lopina is the guy. If Lopina succeeds, I hope people keep in mind that he's facing Baylor (a team that lost nine straight games before last week's win against I-AA Northwestern State). Rogers had to play against Oklahoma State (a surefire bowl team) and California (who will finish near the top of the Pac-10). If the Cougars win (behind Lopina), I can already hear people saying, "Why didn't we start Lopina in the first place?" Let's not go there (please!). I'm getting ahead of myself. We're not even sure who's going to play. Keep a close eye to my blog, KREM.com, and KREM 2 News. As soon as I know who the starter is going to be...I'll let you know. P.S. According to yahoosports.com, the Cougars are now a three point underdog against Baylor. Travelling and playing on the same day is going to be tough. I talked to someone who is down there with the team and they said it's "muggy as [heck]" in Waco right now. We'll see if the Cougars can turn off all the outside factors and just focus on football. |
