Washington State wide receiver Jeshua Anderson was examined by team doctors after Thursday morning's practice and the diagnosis wasn't good. Anderson has a hernia and is scheduled to have surgery on Monday. They won't know how much time he'll miss until after he goes under the knife. That's not good news for a Wazzu team that lacks depth. Anderson is one of the most experienced returning receivers (he's now a sophomore). He played in all twelve games last year making twelve catches for 372 yards (31 yards per reception). He also scored two touchdowns (including an athletic grab in the Apple Cup). Anderson missed all of spring practice (and most of the summer) as he pursued his track and field dreams. The freshman won the Pac-10, national, and World Junior Championship in the 400 meter hurdles. He also competed at the US Olympic Trials in Eugene. It sounds like Anderson was quickly making up ground early in camp. When I was talking to Brandon Gibson on Monday (the first practice of the fall) he was complimenting how well Anderson was picking up on the offense. I'm keeping a close eye on the situation...I'll update you as I find out more. P.S. Keep your eyes peeled for three former Cougars competing in the Olympics (the opening ceremonies are tomorrow): Diana Pickler will compete in the heptathlon, Bernard Lagat will run in the 1500 meter and 5000 meter races, and Ian Waltz will compete in the discuss. |
