The NBA Summer League got started Friday night in Las Vegas. There are three Cougars on summer rosters. Kyle Weaver is playing for Charlotte, Derrick Low is with the Mavericks, and Jeff Varem is playing for Denver. Weaver started tonight in Charlotte's summer league opener against the Clippers. I didn't get to see the game (it wasn't televised), so the box score is all I have to go by. His stat line was mediocre (again...I didn't see the game). Weaver registered four points, two rebounds, and two steals in 15 minutes of play. He was only one-for-five from the field (he took one three and missed it) and two-for-three from the free throw line. He also turned the ball over once. Low also saw playing time (limited to a little more than three minutes) last night for Dallas. He scored two points and also dished out two assists in a loss against the Clippers. Before the summer league started, I found an article on the Dallas Morning News website about how much Low has impressed the Mavericks in the early parts of camp. I'll keep a close eye on him over the next few weeks. Varem, who has spent the last two seasons playing for Sioux Falls of the NBDL, plays tonight against Philadelphia. I'll have an update later tonight. UPDATE 8:08pm: Varem scored two points on one-for-five shooting (zero-for-two from three land). He grabbed three rebounds and picked up two personal fouls in a little more than 16 minutes. Denver won, 99-85. 1 CommentsLeave a comment |
