About a month ago I told you about ESPN's search for every university's "Face of the Program." They were hoping to find a person (player/coach/AD), game, or whatever, that signifies a team's football program more than anything else. Many fans made their suggestions...anyone or anything from Will Derting, to Butch, to Mike Price. I picked the Snow Bowl. ESPN has made their selection now...Mel Hein. Here is their explanation why: "Hein, a member of the pro and college football halls of fame, is widely considered the greatest center in football history. An All-American in 1930, he led Washington State to an unbeaten record and the Rose Bowl. During his three years in Pullman, the Cougars ran up a 26-6 record. His No. 7 jersey was the first retired by the school. After college, he played for the New York Giants and never missed a down due to injury. He won NFL MVP in 1938 and remains the only offensive lineman to win the award." It makes sense to me. ESPN is looking for your help (I'd like to know as well) one more time. They've finalized everyone's suggestions down to four: Drew Bledsoe, William "Lone Star" Dietz, Mel Hein, and Jack Thompson. Who do you think it should be? On top of that...I want to know who you think will be the "Face of the Program" in 2008. Gary Rogers, Brandon Gibson, Paul Wulff? It can be whoever you think.... It's as simple as leaving a comment below! Let's have some fun with this.... |
