May 2008 ArchivesWashington State quarterback recruit Calvin Schmidtke, one of 25 players to sign a National Letter of Intent to play for the Cougs in 2008, is being released from the school. According to the Tacoma News Tribune, Schmidtke has run into legal problems lately. The Lakes High School star has been cited 11 times (seven for traffic violations) in the last 18 months.... The Washington State received a boost yesterday after the announcement that defensive end Matt Mullennix was granted a sixth year of eligibility. Here is the release from the university: "PULLMAN, Wash. - Washington State University senior Matt Mullennix has been granted a sixth year of eligibility by the NCAA, the university announced today. Mullennix, a defensive end from Spangle, Wash., missed the entire 2006 se... I don't know about you, but I'm always scouring the internet. I'm looking for scores, cool stories, and reading other blogs. Sometimes I find useless information...other times I find something I really like. I think you'll like this too. I was checking out Bob Condotta's UW Football Blog on The Seattle Times website (keep your friends close, and your enemies closer) today. He was talking about ESPN.com's "Face of the ... I guess there really is no off-season when it comes to Cougar athletics. A WSU basketball player is leaving the program and a football player is officially suspended for his criminal actions. Let's start with the basketball player...Thomas Abercrombie has decided to leave Washington State University. Here is the release from WSU: "PULLMAN, Wash. - Redshirt freshman guard Thomas Abercrombie has been granted his release from ... The best article I found was by The Seattle Times on former WSU wide receiver Michael Bumpus. The entire article wasn't all about Bumpus, but there was a snippet: "Most of the Seahawks rookies figure to return to the area by June 2, in time... There is no real standout story going on right now with Cougar athletics, but there are a few things to talk about. The first thing to mention (a downer) is that academic issues are finally catching up with the football team. I'm sure you've heard by now that WSU lost eight scholarships because of their poor academic standing (graduation rates, etc.). I started to notice a serious problem last year when it seemed like 20 (not sure the ... Cougar basketball fans can breathe another sigh of relief. Tony Bennett signed an "amended contract" recently that pays him $1 million a year and keeps him in Pullman until 2015 (if his contract is not bought out by another university). The details of his contract were released yesterday. Here's a copy of a story from the Associated Press: PULLMAN, Wash. (AP) - Washington State basketball coach Tony Bennett receive... I know that I'm a little bit late on this (it happened almost a week ago), but I thought it was something I should touch on. Last Saturday, WSU defensive lineman Andy Roof (a graduate of East Valley High School in Spokane) was arrested for assault at a late night party in Pullman. According to reports, Roof allegedly head-butted a guy when he wouldn't let him into a private party; punched another guy unprovoked; then slammed another pe... |
