Bennett Latest And More

9:28 AM Sun, Apr 06, 2008 |

There's no official word, but it sounds like Tony Bennett is not going for the Marquette job. Several media outlets reported that the Golden Eagles were interested, but Tony was not (instead it looks like Marquette is likely going with MU assistant Buzz Williams). Here is a sample of some of the reports:

"Williams has spoken to Marquette officials about the job and may be emerging as the leading candidate now that Washington State's Tony Bennett and Xavier's Sean Miller appear to be taking a pass." -- WTMJ (Milwaukee TV/radio station)

"Since early Thursday, MU is known to have made inquiries about Xavier's Sean Miller, Washington State's Tony Bennett and Virginia Commonwealth's Anthony Grant. But by early Friday, after it became apparent that none of the three is interested in leaving his current job, the school's focus shifted squarely to Williams." -- Milwaukee Journal Sentinel

"Marquette had been fixated on attempting to hire Tony Bennett away from Washington State as late as Thursday, even though Bennett already had turned away interest from Indiana." -- The Sporting News

Many "experts" thought Bennett would be attracted to the position because it is in Milwaukee...looks like they were wrong. As I said from the start, Tony isn't going anywhere (it appears more and more like that's the case). There's no update on his contract talks with WSU...as soon as I hear something I'll tell you.

The list of Pac-10 underclassmen leaving for the draft is getting larger by the day. Arizona's Jerryd Bayless has made himself eligible for the NBA after one season with the Wildcats. Stanford's Brook and Robin Lopez declared earlier this week, so did California's Ryan Anderson (he said he wouldn't hire an agent so he could leave his options open).

NOTE: The latest speculation on NBADraft.net (a website that projects the upcoming draft) has Kyle Weaver going 26th overall to Memphis and Derrick Low going to Utah in the 2nd round (53rd overall).

It's official! I apparently have no idea what I am talking about. I picked North Carolina and UCLA to play in the national championship, instead it's Memphis and Kansas. They play Monday night at 6:20pm only on KREM 2.

Again, stay tuned for the latest on Tony Bennett and much more...

P.S. I want to give some love to my man Joe Kane who is obviously passionate about the Cougs. If you missed it, here's the comment he left the other day:

"Lets get this fundraising drive in full swing for both programs and prove to Bennett that we believe in our program and the direction he has it headed. Upgrading our facilities must happen and paying his assitants more would go a long way in proving that WSU is serious about building this program. I wish Mr. Sterk the best of luck on this endeavor and just hope the alumni start opening their wallets and contribute in any manner they may."
