In Charlotte For The Sweet 16

11:19 PM Tue, Mar 25, 2008 |

We boarded a plane this morning...six hours later we're in Charlotte for the Sweet 16.

My first observation: They take basketball VERY seriously here! Before I even stepped off the plane, I had people talking smack to me (I was wearing a Cougars sweatshirt). I asked this guy to grab a bag out of the overhead compartment for the people sitting next to me. He grabbed the bag, saw my shirt and asked, "Are you here for the game?" I told him that I was. He quickly grabbed his son's shirt and lifted it towards my face...on the front: CAROLINA (in the traditional Carolina Blue and white). All he said after that, "I hope you have a...fun (trying to be as nice as possible)....trip to Charlotte."

There's nothing I hate more than overconfident fans (there seem to be plenty of them here)!

I'm glad my blog has become a haven for Cougar fans. I'm not even trying to be a homer...I'm just calling it the way I see it. I know the Cougs as good as anyone and don't buy into the fact that Washington State can't beat North Carolina. It won't be easy, but it definitely isn't impossible.

The Cougars also got here today. They flew out of the Lewiston earlier this afternoon. They practice tomorrow at an off-site location, then return to Charlotte Bobcats Arena for an open-to-the-public practice at noon (ET).

We'll stream the WSU press conference live on KREM.com tomorrow starting at 10am. We'll also have the Tar Heels press conference starting at 10:30am on our website.

Tom Sherry will have live reports from Charlotte tomorrow morning. And, I'll have the latest from practice at 5, 6, 10, and 11. Not to mention, a Cougar Madness Sweet 16 Special (not really sure what it's called) at 6:30pm.

I'll also be updating my blog as often as possible here in Charlotte, so stay tuned.

As far as I can tell it's a cool city, but it was late (thanks to the time difference). I'll tell you more about Charlotte when I get to see more.

P.S. Choo Choo Choooooooo! Let the Bennett Train roll! Can Tony handle a coaching legend like Roy Williams? We'll find out...

P.S.S. If you want an in-depth look at the match up check out my last blog: Next Up: North Carolina.

P.S.S.S. On our flight from Salt Lake City to Charlotte they showed a movie called August Rush. My advice...avoid it at all cost. I can't even believe I just admitted to watching that.

Tim,

Do you like the Zags or Cougs better? Did you go to Wazzu? Are you dating anyone?

Tim,

You must be a Tar Heel is disguise. You sound like one when you have to throw smack at August Rush.

Nationally the Cougs are getting very little love. Usually its a, "yeah they're okay but no match for the offensive power of UNC". Do I expect people to be picking WSU to win this game? Well no but I would expect people to at least act like we have a chance. Our players run, jump, and shoot just like the players at UNC. Our position reminds me of a season ago when nobody thought we were legit. We snuck up on everybody and it just may happen again!
