So, when I decide to highlight Kyle Weaver's latest achievements (my last blog, It's Kyle Weaver's Time To Shine), what does he do? He scored five points (on 1-of-6 shooting from the field) against Oregon State. As always, when one player is off, someone else steps up (Taylor Rochestie scored a career high 24). Next up: Oregon on Saturday. Washington State will need to bring their "A Game" to McArthur Court tomorrow. At times, it looked like the Cougars played down to the Beavers level (a really low level...they're 0-12 in the Pac-10) on Thursday. Mac Court (aka "The Pit") is one of the toughest places to play in the conference. Only two teams (10-2) have beat the Ducks at home this year: #6 UCLA on January 24th and USC in overtime two days later. Of course, Wazzu hasn't been very successful against the Ducks in the recent past. Yes, the Cougs beat Oregon in their first meeting this year (WSU won, 69-60), but that win snapped a 13 game losing streak against UO. I went back in the archives as far as I could (1997-98) and couldn't find a Cougar win in Eugene. Since their first meeting on January 20th, Oregon has gone 3-3. They're coming off a 71-58 victory over Washington on Thursday. The Ducks are 15-9 overall, 6-6 in the conference. Compare that to Washington State since January 20th: The Cougars have gone 3-4, losing three straight to California, Stanford, and UCLA. Wazzu is #21 in the country at 19-5, 7-5 (three more wins pretty much guarantees a trip to the NCAA Tournament). As I am writing this...the odds aren't set for tomorrow's game. The Washington State team that played against USC a week ago needs to show up against Oregon (not the team we've seen too often recently...almost like they're just going through the motions). A win Saturday would be huge for the Wazzu. My fingers are crossed! 1 CommentsLeave a comment |

Dude, it's Wazzu, not the Wazzu. And no, people don't have dials on their tv anymore.
