Yikes! What happened to the Cougars Thursday night? In my last blog I said the Cougars would cover the spread (9 1/2 points) against California (I truly believed that). If they turn around with a similiar performance today against Stanford, as Taylor Rochestie put it, "It'll be a long season." The Cardinal come into Pullman ranked 14th in the country. The Cougars (for the time being) are 9th. Both teams are 17-3. Stanford is led by "The Twin Towers," Brook and Robin Lopez. The twin brothers (both stand 7'0" 255-260 lbs.) average nearly 28 points and a little over 14 rebounds per game. Brook is the better player, averaging 19 points on his own (he scored 31 points and grabbed 13 boards in Thursday's win over Washington). As for the Cougars, they need to be more consistent. To me, they've seemed out of synch for the last three games (loss to Arizona, one point win over ASU, and a loss to California). I know in my heart we'll never see as poor a shooting effort from the Cougars ever again (Daven Harmeling and Derrick Low were a combined 1-for-14 from three point range). Consistency is the key today. On Thursday, the Cougs had a tough time containing 6'10" Ryan Anderson (he was 5-for-7 from beyond the arc). They should have an easier time slowing down the Lopez brothers because they're not as mobile as Anderson (this is where it would be nice to have Ivory Clark back). Wazzu is a four point favorite. At this point I don't care about the spread...I just want the Cougars to win. |
