Doba's Replacement? Update 3

5:40 PM Thu, Nov 29, 2007 |

Another day and still no one really stands out above the rest. It seems like Washington State's search is the widest in the country (at least that's the way it sounds in the media). That doesn't mean there hasn't been some recent movement.

Here's the latest:

Mike Price told the Seattle PI that it's too early in the process to decide if he'd go back to Washington State. According to the same article, Bill Moos (hired to help with the search) has talked to Price since Monday.

Kevin Sumlin (Oklahoma Offensive Coordinator) could become the offensive coordinator under new head coach Mike Sherman at Texas A&M. Sumlin has already held the position (co-coordinator) once before at A&M from 2001-02.

Fresno State's Pat Hill told reporters that he hasn't been contacted about any jobs and he's not leaving the Bulldogs.

At least he's talking. Montana's Bobby Hauck will not comment to anyone about potential jobs. Again, it sounds like he's also being considered at Colorado State.

Tom Osborne (Nebraska Athletic Director; former Huskers head coach) has named himself interim head coach (only for recruiting purposes). He plans on naming a full-time head coach as early as next week. Turner Gill (Buffalo Head Coach) is a finalist for the job (he played quarterback for Huskers in 1980s).

If this is your first time to my blog be sure to check out the previous Doba Replacement? stories. I've been updating my findings everyday this week (sometimes twice a day).

Stay tuned for another update...

You sound like all the young bloggers who don't know how well these guys have done compared to past years. My first apple cup was in spokane in '62 at age five. For the players that are there, recruited by assistants, if they kept most of the assistants, it might be the best thing. These guy bleed crimson and gray and have most of their lives. Your opinion that they need to clean house is bull.

Dude, a changing of the guard is desperately needed in order to be competitive in the pac-10. I recommend Montana's coach. See ya in the next life.

Thanks for the feedback S.C.

Obviously, I haven't been a Coug fan as long as you (I'm only 27), but I think I've been around long enough to see that the Cougs ideas went stale.

I don't doubt that Bill Doba and the assistants bleed crimson and gray, but that doesn't mean it's the best idea to keep them around.

I think school pride should play a role in the hiring process. WSU should turn to someone with Cougar ties. Pullman is a unique place and I think it'll take someone that knows the area to succeed.
