November 2007 ArchivesJim Sterk (WSU Athletic Director) made it very clear today that he is not going to comment on the search for Wazzu's new head coach, but did say he wants someone in place by the first of the year. That means the speculation continues. It sounds like several candidates have been contacted (one may be meeting with the school next week), others don't want to comment, and another name is added to an already long list. ...Another day and still no one really stands out above the rest. It seems like Washington State's search is the widest in the country (at least that's the way it sounds in the media). Others have expressed interest in becoming a head coach (one specifically talked about the WSU gig). And, the guy I thought to be the wildest of wildcards might actually have a chance. ...There's already an update! Some of the guys I thought might be candidates have permission to look into the job (or any job for that matter), another wants to stay focused on his current position, and another might be going in a different direction. I've even added more names to the list. ...It should've been a week of celebration in Cougarville after WSU beat the Huskies in the Apple Cup (one of the best games in the series history), instead there is uncertainty about the direction of the program. Bill Doba is out (I'm disappointed) and no one knows who the answer is (but, I've come up with some ideas). Thanksgiving Break starts on Friday for students at Washington State University. Thousands of kids will head in thousands of different directions. But, they should delay their departure...for the Cougars sake. ...There are still three weeks left in the college football season (we'll get to that in a second), but the Cougars basketball squad (#10 in the country) deserves some love before their opener. ... |
