TOM SHERRY: I want to come to your town!

10:17 AM Thu, May 29, 2008 |

I've rearranged my work schedule this summer so that I can come to your town.

've moved my Barbeque forecast from Fridays to Thursdays. I did this so I could get out on the road on Fridays and visit area towns during their community festivals. Many of the surrounding communities have great celebrations every summer and I want to do my weather forecast from these towns.

If your community has a special festival let me know. I can...

MIKE BOYLE: Can you believe it? Chiefs win Memorial Cup!

10:57 PM Sun, May 25, 2008 |

Wowwwww.....
It's all I can really say after watching our Chiefs win the toughest trophy to win in sports, the Memorial Cup. I mean, think about it. Spokane had to win 4 seven game series just to get to the Cup, then win 4 more games against the 3 best teams in a 60 team Canadian Hockey League.
To win the Stanley Cup, it's just winning 4 seven game series. That's tough enough, but imagine if Detroit or Pittsburgh had to turn around...

MIKE BOYLE: Practices are done...Kitchener awaits...for the Cup

9:33 AM Sat, May 24, 2008 |

One final practice. For the Chiefs, it was the last chance to take to the practice ice as a team for 2007-08 as the team worked out for about 45 minutes Saturday morning at the Kitchener Auditorium. It was the final practice in the careers of captain Chris Bruton, Judd Blackwater and David Rutherford.
Those three, as well as the rest of the team, went through a high paced workout at the site of tomorrow's Memorial Cup final. The Chiefs k...

MIKE BOYLE: Back to work for the Chiefs

10:45 AM Fri, May 23, 2008 |

So much for a day off. After yesterday's trip to Toronto, the Chiefs were right back to work this morning as they get ready for theee biggest game of their lives on Sunday with the Memorial Cup final.
Friday was a full practice day with a chance for the team to get geared up not only physically, but mentally for what promises to be a huge battle Sunday. The team still doesn't know who they will play, as Belleville and the host team Kitch...

MIKE BOYLE: A fun filled day in Toronto

10:10 PM Thu, May 22, 2008 |

The Chiefs got to take a break from hockey on Thursday as they took off from Kitchener and traveled to Toronto to take in the sights of Canada's largest city.

The team started the day eating lunch at Wayne Gretzky's restaurant. It's in a great location just down the street from the Skydome, where the Toronto Blue Jays play.
From there, it was off to the Hockey Hall of Fame. It was beyond expectations.

At the main entrance...

MIKE BOYLE: Chiefs await Cup finals opponent

12:42 PM Wed, May 21, 2008 |

Now that the Chiefs have made the Memorial Cup final, the only question remains is who will they play?

Spokane saw to it that it wouldn't be Gatineau, as the Chiefs eliminated the Quebec champs 3-1 last night. Now it comes down to either Ontario League champ and host Kitchener or OHL representative Belleville.

Spokane was in an absolute battle with both teams this past weekend, beating the hometown Rangers 2-1 Sunday, and the B...

MIKE BOYLE: Chiefs beat Gatineau 3-1....1 game to go!

9:57 PM Tue, May 20, 2008 |

It's been quite a ride for the Spokane Chiefs this season, but who would have thought in August that the Chiefs would be playing for the Memorial Cup championship?

Well Spokane, that's exactly what the Chiefs are doing Sunday when they face the winner of Friday's Belleville-Kitchener semi-final.

Spokane eliminated the Quebec Junior Major Hockey League champion Gatineau Olympiques Tuesday with a solid 3-1 victory. Like the 1991...

MIKE BOYLE: Chiefs prepare for Gatineau

12:54 PM Mon, May 19, 2008 |

Monday was a cold, wet and dreary day in Kitchener, a far cry from the warmer weather in Spokane. The temperatures hit the low 40's here last night and with the wind chill it felt like winter again. Why not? We're still playing hockey aren't we?

The Chiefs enjoyed a nice day off after a huge win over tournament favorite Kitchener on Sunday. Spokane went through a light workout at the practice rink at Sportsworld down the road from the ...

MIKE BOYLE: Chiefs take out Kitchener 2-1

6:55 PM Sun, May 18, 2008 |

It was billed as a possible Memorial Cup championship preview and Sunday's Chiefs game with Kitchener certainly lived up to that billing. Hopefully the result is a preview of things to come as well, as Spokane edged Kitchener 2-1 Sunday to run the Chiefs record to 2-0 at the Cup.
Basically the win has set Spokane up to advance directly to the championship game next Sunday if one of two things happen. 1) If Belleville beats Gatineau Monda...

MIKE BOYLE: Chiefs beat Belleville 5-4!

7:06 PM Sat, May 17, 2008 |

Well, after 10 days away from a game, the Memorial Cup began in earnest for the Spokane Chiefs Saturday as they took on the Belleville Bulls of the Ontario League.
After all the interviews and hoopla, the Chiefs could finally begin their quest towards their second Cup title.
Spokane looked a bit rusty the first couple of minutes, especially when Mitch Wahl stole the puck at the Bulls blue line and proceeded to lose the puck off hi...

MIKE BOYLE: Practices are done...Ready for the Cup Saturday

11:46 AM Fri, May 16, 2008 |

Just one more day and the Chiefs will finally take to the ice in the Memorial
Cup. By the time Spokane faces Belleville at 1 p.m. Pacific on Saturday, the Chiefs will have been off for 10 days, their longest lay off of the season.

The team isn't too worried about it, but I know I am. I saw what a nine day layoff did to Lethbridge in the WHL finals in game one of their series with Spokane, and the Chiefs cannot aff...

MIKE BOYLE: Crazy weather and weekend flooding

10:33 PM Thu, May 15, 2008 |

It has been a crazy couple of seasons of weather. Beginning with winter, the winter that wouldn't end, the second snowiest winter ever. Then the Spring that couldn't get sprung.

March and April seemed like a continuation of winter and now we are jumping straight into mid summer like weather... it's crazy.

Temperatures will rise to around 90 degrees on Saturday. Of course this 20-25 degree increase in temperatures is having a pr...

MIKE BOYLE: Chiefs get first practice in Kitchener

1:40 PM Thu, May 15, 2008 |

Now that the Chiefs have settled in at this year's Memorial Cup site, Thursday was the day to get back to work. Spokane practiced for the first time since arriving in Kitchener and by all indications, they look ready for Saturday afternoon's opener with Belleville.

Before practice, Rogers Sportsnet, who is nationally televising the Cup across Canada, had the team in for what are called head shots for their broadcast. That way when they...

MIKE BOYLE: Chiefs Arrive in Kitchener

4:57 PM Wed, May 14, 2008 |

The excitement is really starting to build for the Memorial Cup as the Chiefs arrived here about 1:30 p.m Pacific Standard Time yesterday (May, 14).

The team flew out on a charter flight at around 10 a.m. (PST) - and I have to tell you, if you've never flown on a charter, then try. It's like having an entire airplane to yourself. The team really had the feeling that they had hit the big time.

Normally, the team i...

NADINE WOODWARD: Spencer's: Where steaks rule!

2:34 PM Fri, May 09, 2008 |

When it comes to the most flavorful steaks around it's hard to beat Spencer's, Spokane's premiere steakhouse inside the downtown Double Tree Hotel.

During a recent dinner between the news anchors, station management and news consultants there were no complaints, except that the relaxed atmosphere put us four overly stuffed news types a little behind schedule when we returned to the station to anchor the late evening newscasts. So, pla...
