September 2009 ArchivesThe home opener could not have gone any better if you're a Spokane Chiefs fan, as the Chiefs rolled over the Tri-City Americans 5-2 last Saturday night. After falling behind 1-0, Mitch Wahl got the Chiefs on the board with a nice individual effort to tie the game at 1 after the first period. Brett Bartman's slapper from the left point would put the Chiefs up 2-1 after two. The third period was all Spokane as newly named captai... The first weekend of the season saw the Chiefs take their longest road trip of the season as they opened the year with two games in Prince George. I for one am thankful to have the 13 hour bus ride behind me and the prospect of not having to do it again for another season, barring playoffs of course, is just fine by me. It seems like the playoffs just ended, but now the chase for another Western Hockey League championship begins for Spokane Friday night in Prince George. Expectations for this year's team are not of the sky high variety that many fans, players or coaches had for last year's squad.
