Tom Sherry Recipe: Beer Can Chicken

9:21 PM Thu, Jul 30, 2009 |

I had some fun tonight on my BBQ Forecast cooking up something called "Beer Can Chicken", also called "Beer Butt Chicken." It really does make the most moist chicken I've ever grilled. Here's how to do it.

Get a can of beer and drink or pour out about half the can. Carefully remove the lid with a can opener. You can drop in some onion slices if you want.

Coat the chicken with olive oil and then sprinkle with spices or Tom's Original BBQ Rub (available at The Trading Company).

Place the beer can up the chickens behind and place on the grill using the legs and can like a tripod. It helps if you use a foil roaster pan.

Cook for about 2 hours and then let rest for 10 minutes. Be careful when removing the can the liquid is VERY hot! I also use hot pads for this. You'll need to wash them after because of the grease.

Enjoy.
