RANDY SHAW: Can you spare a turkey?

10:45 PM Tue, Nov 11, 2008 |

Under normal circumstances there's a need for the traditional holiday meal for those who can't afford it. The local community has always responded to that need, but circumstances have changed.

Wage freezes, cutbacks in spending and a tragic economy spawning layoffs is pushing the need even higher and donations ever lower. It's a double whammy! Just at the time when the need is the most many can't afford to help.

So I'm writing this blog to try and help Tom's Turkey Drive.

Thousands of you have helped in the past and I'm hoping each and every one of you can help again. Maybe some of you who haven't contributed are able to step forward to buy one of the special holiday meals already prepared and ready to go at Rosauer's stores.

They are still $15. Please do what you can. And if you have any other ideas on getting the word out or are in a local business where your employees can help we'd like to hear from you.

Please lend a hand this holiday season.

This just touches my heart. I am an RN and even Healhcare is now being affected in this economy, with layoffs occuring at my place of work. I am a middle class citizen and don't usually think too much about donating at Holiday time except I always do the tree of sharing. However this year, with all th lay offs and horrible economy I will surely donate a Turkey dinner, knowing that at any time, I may need the same assistance! I challenge ALL NURSES to buy atleast ONE of these turkey dinners!
