While the pundits have weighed in on the recently concluded presidential election, it's at least time for one last parting shot on campaign '08 from a meteorologist. We get blamed for a lot of things - trust me, I know. However, we can't be held responsible for the outcome of last week's election ... or could we? A study completed by a group of political scientists in 2007 suggested that the weather has the ability to play a factor in an election's outcome. Here's how: Historically the rain is a friend of the GOP. The study showed that for every single inch increase in rain above the election-day norm, the GOP candidate typically received an additional 2.5-percent of the vote. On paper it was supposed to have been to the advantage of GOP candidate John McCain in the Pacific Northwest, but even that trend was bucked last week. Additionally, the majority of the rest of the country saw pleasant, tranquil weather. Hey, like we've always said: don't shoot the messenger. 1 CommentsLeave a comment |
