When it comes to the most flavorful steaks around it's hard to beat Spencer's, Spokane's premiere steakhouse inside the downtown Double Tree Hotel. During a recent dinner between the news anchors, station management and news consultants there were no complaints, except that the relaxed atmosphere put us four overly stuffed news types a little behind schedule when we returned to the station to anchor the late evening newscasts. So, plan on a leisurely meal. We started with the Broiled Beefsteak Tomatoes (my favorite side dish), the Lobster Macaroni and Cheese (on that night's fresh sheet) and the Skillet of Burgundy Mushrooms. The thickly sliced beefsteaks are topped with mozzarella cheese, broiled and finished with fresh basil and balsamic vinegar. Absolutely fantastic! I'm a huge mac'n cheese fan. Spencer's version with gruyere, cheddar, parmesan and cream cheeses and that top-notch crustacean was heavenly rich and worth every fat-laden spoonful. This is where steaks RULE! The signature Spencer Steak (ribeye) and Filet Mignon are superb. The USDA prime beef is well marbled and aged a minimum of three weeks to achieve maximum tenderness and flavor (so the menu says.) The main courses come with the Spencer Salad (field greens with parmesan cheese and croutons) and bread. Everything else is ala carte. You've got to have spuds with your steak, right? Forget the Garlic Smashed Potatoes and go for the Hash Browns Au Gratin; definitely a step up. Since I'd obviously already blown my half-hearted attempt at dieting (swim suit season is just around the corner) I ordered the Warmed Chocolate and Fudge "Naughty" Cake. All I can say, it lived up to its name! 6 CommentsLeave a comment |

I'll agree that Spencer's has a nice fare for the price which most can't afford or put on their bosses expense account.
For us working stiffs, I'll go to Wolfe's Lodge for their steaks anytime. Located just north of Coeur D'Alene on IH-90 well worth the drive for that 44 ounce monster that melts in your mouth.
The atmosphere is down to earth and gives you the local experience. No need to have coat and tie or try to dress to impress anyone here.
hi nadine my name is kevin wagner and we moved here to cda 2 years ago. my twin brother paul wagner just recently followed us here. he has been the chef for wolfgang puck in las vegas for about 15 years and he is now executive chef at the beach house in cda. paul is trying to turn around the not so great reputation that it had before he got here and tasting the food paul threw down the other night was unbelievable. the ribs were to die for and everything else was amazing too. they just opened last night for the first time this year so they still need to get into their rythum, but if you visited them in about a month you will see why he was one of wolfgang's cooks for all these years . the food tasting the other night was so good and hearing everyone in the place rave about the food made me very proud of my bro, so please give it a try. thanks kevin wagner
I can' help but be amused by the placing of the ad for Sacred Heart's HealthLink website right next to your review. With a meal or two like you described, can a trip to Sacred Heart for some health and wellness advice be far behind. Seriously, I enjoyed the review, and cannot wait for the next one. Hope this blog does well.
Hi Nadine!!
I live here on the Western Side of Washington!!
Southwest to be exact.I live in Chehalis,WA..Theres a restaurant here that is right downtown and it is a wonderful place..
Its called Sweet Inspirations...The downtown business people, other business people and regular folks come in and have lunch or breakfast..Wednesday-Sunday they also serve Dinner!!
Come on over!!
Their Mud Pie is TO DIE FOR!!Nadine, that "naughty cake" you talked about sounds MILD compared to this!!
Come on Over!!
In response to Kevin Wagner and the Beachhouse. They do have great food and I love their seafood lasagna, peel and eat shrimp, and their huckleberry cobbler is to die for! If you like Alaskan King Crab legs you have to try their Russian Crab Leg at least once. It is pricey, but so worth it! One crab leg is a pound and a half! It also has a unique flavor all its own.
My only caveat is that they closed down for the winter this last year--very disappointed. In the past they would have special dinners for Halloween, Thanksgiving, and New Year's that were always popular from what I saw and heard. My husband and I would do the traditional Thanksgiving for him (turkey, etc.) and then I would get my Thanksgiving of Russian Crab!! Just awesome!
Wolf Lodge is the only place for mouth the most incredible steak dinner, buckaroo beans, potatoes and their awesome cowboy bread. As Rick stated, no need to dress up, jeans & t-shirts a perfect.
Highly encourage you to come on it to Cd'A, but you have to have reservations.
