Rain returns to the area late this morning into the afternoon with a high of only 65 It's time to stock up on all the rain we can get as Summer is going to warm back up and turn dry. Today's wet weather should be more showery than steady in Spokane...but it is going to get wet again. I walked out of the mountains Sunday in an all day rain...and I couldn't help but think how big this was for the wildfires currently burning in the national forests. The change in the weather spells the beginning of the end of the fire season....which traditionally peaks around August 20th. The Selway fires recieved from a tenth of an inch Sunday at Moose Creek...to up to a half inch reported across the Clearwater at Pierce. The big project fires will burn and smolder till Snow flies...but their Summer rampage is over and additonal spread will be largely held in check now. It takes mother nature to do what man cannot....and while fire season is fading .....the region is still at hazard to see the one day flash fire that can cause significant damage. |
