Despite what the calender says....its going to feel like Summer this week with temperatures in the 70's today with sunny skies. Late May will continue to warm up as a heat wave develops. Highs will reach the 80's starting Wednesday with near record highs in the 90's this weekend. A sure sign of Summer is the opening of the Chinkook pass in the Cascades....which is now ready and waiting for travellers. I've maintained all along that Summer started in Spokane the day after Bloomsday. When you add this upcoming heat wave to moisture totals which are still well below normal....indications are that it is going to be a long, hot Summer...with high fire danger. Winds over the Winter took down alot of trees in the mountains.....trail reports from the Cascades indicate heavy downfall...which feeds fire. |
