Spring blossoms

7:41 AM Thu, Apr 05, 2007 |

Warmer temperatures arrive at last with mostly sunny skies by afternoon.

The warm up has been slow in coming this week, but we'll relish the warm side of Spring into the weekend. Temperatures will by far be the warmest of the year so far regionwide with almost Summer like highs Friday and Saturday with readings around 70.
Normal is currently 54. Based on my observations...Spokane is having an early Spring and this warm weather will lead to an explosion of greenery. The raspberry patch is already leafing out....buds on the fruit trees are swelling and the grass is growing with a flurish. I've already started irrigating, as Spokane is an inch and half below normal on precipitation already this year. Avista reports high flows in the Spokane river are about three weeks earlier than normal. Did I mention weeds?...they are on a tear too! A good deal of this early Spring can be attributed to above normal overnight lows during March. Bottom line.....while weather systems will come and go over the next few weeks.....It's time to think Summer!
