KREM 2 Transparent Newsroom: The reasons behind the new digital studio

5:15 PM Wed, Apr 18, 2007 |

If you've watched KREM 2 NEWS over the last two days, you've noticed our new digital studio and new graphics, but may not have heard the reasons behind the change.

Our old studio simply wasn't set up to do the complicated types of newscasts that we produce on a daily basis. We had to do a lot of "smoke and mirrors" to make things look the way we wanted them to, or we just couldn't present information the way we felt was most effective. The old studio was also dated and limited our options for where we present our stories.
The new digital studio has many advantages. It's more visually appealing by far for our viewers. From a practical standpoint of helping us tell stories, it's now equipped with better technology that allows our anchors more places to tell stories from and better equipment to tell them with. The new StormTracker 2 Weather Center is an actual working weather center so Chief Meteorologist Tom Sherry and our other weather anchors no longer have to run back and forth from the newsroom into the studio as they update graphics. This allows them to stay in the studio in front of our cameras while severe weather is going on so we can bring our viewers critical information faster, especially in life-threatening weather situations.
Our new graphic look is designed so information can be presented more clearly by having text and pictures stand out more. Our old graphics look was constrained by a number of factors that made things hard to read and difficult to watch.
Let me know on this blog what you think of the new KREM 2 Digital Studio and our new graphics.

We are dissappointed in the new set. The back ground of when the news team is on air seems to be very busy, also the color is too bright. When Tom is giving the extended forecast, what shows on the TV is difficult to read. We have both a HD TV and a regular one. The issues seem to be present on both sets. KREM 2 is our choice of news and weather, and has been for over 20 years. We sincerely hope a few changes can be made so that it is more viewer friendly.
