The snow has melted, the bouncing balls have been put away, and the anticipation of another beautiful Coeur d' Alene summer is already in the air. Yes folks its spring sports time. The fall and winter have gone by faster than a Lake City relay team. Memories of state titles are still tattooed on minds of the North Idaho sports faithful, but now we press on to the spring sports season where the area's finest prep programs have seemingly been consistent in the potato state title hunt. Remembering Spring 2006 Titles *Coeur d' Alene Softball 5A State Softball Champions *Lake City Softball 5A State Runner-Up *Sandpoint Baseball 4A State Baseball Champions *Timberlake 3A Boys State Track Champions *Kootenai 1A Girls State Track Champions *Post Falls 4A Girls Track Runner-Up
Coeur d' Alene Baseball- Currently unscathed and unblemished, The Vikings (10-0) are the early favorites in the always competitive Inland Empire League. Anytime there are two division 1 athletes and tradition on your side, good things are in the works. Coeur d' Alene pitcher Andy Seaman (Army) and shortstop Shea Vucinich (Washington State) have already signed with their respective collegiate programs. Coeur d' Alene Softball-The defending 5A state champions, Coeur d' Alene (8-0) is still a favorite to take the IEL crown after graduating 6 starters from a year ago.The girls softball team also features two players that have inked to play Division I ball in fine pitcher Jenna Delong (Drake) and center fielder Kylie Chandler (Jacksonville State). Lindsey Stark, a two time all IEL selection at shortstop, is also back for the royal blue. Timberlake Boys Track & Field- If you are looking for a track squad that can put up major points in every event regardless of division, then look no further than Spirit Lake, Idaho. Timberlake returns 90% of the point total that took home last years 3A boys track title. One of the finest runners this side of the Pacific, Frank Lagrimanta is out to defend titles in 3200 and 1600 before taking his accolades to Montana State University in the fall. Nick Puckett (sprints) Levi Powers (defending 3A triple jump champ) and Casey Denton (middle distance), among a few other's can put up points in a hurry.
