Rumor has it that in the coming days WSU will be announcing a new deal for Tony Bennett that will raise his salary from the bottom of Pac-10 basketball coaches to somewhere in the middle. It has also been announced that about $400,000 dollars has been raised over the last month by the grassroots e-mail campaign recently launched by a Cougar Alumni group. Honestly, could Dick Bennett have possibly imagined this kind of turn-around when he took over the program from Paul Graham? Something tells me Dick will be getting a little more than a bottle of bad aftershave and a tacky tie from Tony this Christmas... It's taken me this long to post another blog after the Cougs' season ended. Frankly, basketball season ended for me too. It's just not as much fun following the tournament with no one to cheer for. As great as it was to see the Cougs beat Oral Roberts in the first round of the tournament, it was equally hard to see them bow out against Vanderbilt - especially with so many chances to win the game. Kyle Weaver missed only one free throw attempt in the game and Daven Harmeling missed only one field goal attempt. Both of those missed shots would have sealed a win for the Cougs. I guess they picked a bad day to be imperfect. Fortunately for those watching at home, it was St Paddy's Day, and our sorrows were quickly washed away in a flood of Tullamore Dew and green beer. Great scheduling! Now, we wait 'til next year - and hopefully do it all over again. Go Cougs! |
