I've gotten several emails over the last few months about why our coverage of the WSU men's basketball team hasn't matched our coverage of Gonzaga's team. These viewers have been correct. We have devoted more resources, air time, and KREM.com content to Gonzaga. Simply put, Gonzaga has been the sports story that this community has talked about over the last eight years and our coverage needs to match that level of community interest. 3 CommentsLeave a comment |

I think I'll title this "An Inconvenient Truth"
It's funny that this is discussed at the end of the Cougars season, instead of at the beginning. How convenient. They've been climbing the polls all season long, where Gonzaga has done nothing but drop and eventually hit a low with the drug bust...And yet it takes you this long to start paying them attention.
The Cougs will make the NCAA tournament, and I'm sure you'll follow them where ever they go, but what about next year, and the year after. If they go back and "Coug" it again, and have another losing season, all of us Cougar fans are left in the dark with what is happening down here, but we get to hear about all the rich kids at Gonzaga regardless of how their season is going. Spokane is unique in the college sports world. Better than Seattle in some respects. Not only do we have a major conference team, the Pac-10 Cougars, a mid-major team that could make the playoffs, WCC-Gonzaga, and a few other small schools that have their shining moments as well.
Yet with all these schools around, Spokane media won't travel an hour it seems to cover the cougs basketball team, unless they catch the bandwagon. It's much easier to walk into your backyard and see what's in front of you instead of taking the time and effort to put a few miles on the odometer.
WSU deserves the same respect that you give Gonzaga regardless of the record and location.
I agree with Jim,
Perhaps KREM should follow the more "newsworthy" Cougs as opposed to the Mediocre, but still decent Zags. This answer reeks of news for the dollar (ala more people are still into the Zags, so that means greater ratings, meaning more ad revenue). This is not fair and balanced news coverage is outright greed by Belo and KREM. The first story should be the Cougs who are having their best season in years, not the Zags, who are having their worst. Have some integrity KREM and cover the real story.
One last thing per my last post....
If the Cougs haven't been lost in the coverage, then why are the Gonzaga Women (THE GONZAGA WOMEN) the top story on KREM.COM. It reeks, it reeks very badly.
