You all saw the game fans. One yard short. Well the bigger story isn’t the one yard that we didn’t make. The bigger story is that our Seahawks aren’t the NFC champions we once knew. It’s bad enough that we have a lousy defense, but when our offense can’t hold on to the ball, well that’s just bad football. Going in to Arizona with the chance to win the division outright, even with the rough injuries and bad luck we have had, our bumbling fumbling Seahawks have proven again that they aren’t the NFC champions we knew from last year. Arizona was winning games and showing signs of life after another dismal season. Seattle on a two game winning streak, and getting their big guns back. Three fumbles lost and one fumble saved by Matt Haselbeck shows that the Seahawks didn’t show up to play. Did they think this was going to be easy? Did they think Arizona was just going to lay down and let them win? Fumbling the ball four times in a game is unacceptable from an NFL team. Especially a team that is supposed to be one of the best in the NFL. Well fans, our Seahawks aren’t the best. Sure we need to support them, and sure we need to continue to cheer them into the playoffs, but don’t be under the illusion that the Seahawks are as good as they were last year. The offense is struggling to gain identity with different players coming back each week. It shows in the games. The passing game isn’t as sharp. The running game for the most part is non-existent. The un-inspiring defense once again allowed their opponent to run and pass right down the field. The defense this year should have been what kept us alive, fans. Well the Ray Rhodes era is over. If only Ray was healthy enough to coach. The only thing this defense has inspired me to do is to pray to the football gods for a new Defensive Coordinator. In the interim perhaps we should order the Seahawks defensive coaches the Bill Parcells coaching DVD. You know his DVDs give you some of the best minds in football to help you coach your young players. Maybe this would be a good stocking stuffer for certain Seahawks coaches. We will make the playoffs and we should be happy about that, but we shouldn’t be happy about the way we are going to make the playoffs. The Seahawks will not charge into the playoffs, Next year the 49er, the Rams, and the Cardinals will be better teams. Unless Seattle finds a way to play inspired football again, we may find ourselves at the end of the season earlier and earlier every year for a long time. |
