IF WE MAKE THE PLAYOFFS. IF?

If we make the playoffs??

That is what Mike Holmgren said during his weekly coach’s show. If we make the playoffs. IF! You know fans as I sat and watched Football on Sunday and had time to reflect on the Seahawks losing effort on Thursday, something became apparent to me. The Seahawks have given up. The Seahawks lose games and make absolutely no adjustments. I believe it is because they have written this season off.

I watched Mike Holmgren during his post game press conference and his show on Sunday, and I get the feeling that he has given up on this season. Looking battered and beaten during his post game press conference, Holmgren had no answers as to what happened. All he could say was that they didn’t play well. During his show on Sunday the coach made no excuses for the loss, and when asked about the Chargers, the coach seemed to hint that he didn’t have an answer for the high-powered running game and the tight defense of the Chargers.

Have the Seahawks given up? Shaun Alexander sitting on the sidelines after the game with absolutely no emotion other than shock. Hasselbeck talking about getting swagger back. How about getting some first downs, and keeping your defense off the field. Bryce Fischer was the only Seahawk to show any emotion after the game. And he should have, his defense played extremely well for the first three quarters. That defense was on the field for a long time fans. The offense couldn’t move the ball and get first downs. There aren’t too many defenses in the NFL that will hold up that long.

Is our dream of a Superbowl win over? It appears for this year it is. A team battered by injuries has lost its will to win. Every time they make a stride and get someone back, someone else gets hurt. It is depressing as a fan, and must be devastating as a player and coach.

I am very disappointed in one player fans. Shaun Alexander needs to realize that this isn’t touch football. The only time he fought for a yard was when he was scoring a touchdown on Thursday. He is in a position to help his battered team and be a leader. It seams that Alexander is only interested in protecting himself. I hope he realizes that he needs to lead to be a leader.

Christmas Eve is going to be a very difficult day for us fans. I am hoping for the best, but seeing the losing attitude in our players and coaches doesn’t give me much hope for a victory. I hope our Seahawks playing the role of the underdog, and muster a win and gain some confidence to at least fight for the dream of returning to the Superbowl.
