A late change...

6:44 PM Fri, Nov 10, 2006 |

This post is a new addition to the KREM.com Blogger. On a regular basis, I will give you an inside perspective on the many content decisions we make in our newsroom every day. As always, your feedback is welcome and appreciated (yes, even complaints).

A key decision of note Friday was made late in the day, when our top story at 6:00 was changed about 45 minutes before the newscast.
Much of the day, we planned to start our newscast with a very interesting story about an elementary school pot bust in Loon Lake. However, the threat of snow in areas surrounding Spokane and heavy snow in the mountain passes convinced us to begin with weather. With the help of a live report from our Seattle sister-station KING-TV, this late change ultimately proved to be the right move. Our viewers rely on us to provide the most up-to-date information on severe weather (or just weather that's inconvenient).
When it comes to snow in the Inland Northwest, we certainly walk a fine line between crying wolf and being informative. Overall, the management team felt our tone was appropriate in conveying the true nature of the incoming storm.
