Zags Come Out Flat, Defeat Vikings

8:20 PM Thu, Nov 30, 2006 |

On a night in which the atmosphere in the Kennel was as a flat as it gets in the usually raucous building the Bulldogs effort was also somewhat lackluster. Aided by a good first half by Derek Raivio the Zags pulled ahead of Portland State with a late first half run and made another late game push to win a closer than the score indicated game.

The Seahawks limp in to Denver

1:52 PM Thu, Nov 30, 2006 |

If you read the injury and illness list for the Seahawks, you wonder how the heck they can keep going on. I can't remember a season where so many wierd things happened to so many players at once. It's crazy.

Gonzaga Beats Fatigue and Vandals

3:33 PM Sun, Nov 26, 2006 |

Less than two days after playing in New York the Zags returned to the Kennel this afternoon and dominated a smaller and less experienced Idaho Vandals squad in all facets of the game on the way to a 76-51 victory. Gonzaga used another solid rebounding and defensive effort to pull away from Idaho late in the first half and early in the second half on their way to improving to 6-1 on the year and running the nation’s longest home court winning ...

Butler Takes NIT Title From Zags

9:49 AM Sat, Nov 25, 2006 |

After a remarkable five consecutive wins and an upset of North Carolina, Gonzaga finally ran into a better team Friday night in the Preseason NIT Championship. Butler used their experienced guard oriented lineup to jump out to an early lead, hitting numerous three pointers, and then would not let the Zags close the gap the rest of the night.

Bulldogs Reach NIT Final

12:12 AM Thu, Nov 23, 2006 |

Led by the stellar play of Josh Heytvelt inside and a three-guard attack Gonzaga pulled off another upset, beating the second ranked University of North Carolina 82-74 to move into the finals of the Preseason NIT. In a battle of two young and extremely talented teams the Zags played harder and got a much more balanced team effort in order to beat one of the nation’s most storied programs and add another major upset to the Zag’s record.

Too much to bear?

11:44 AM Tue, Nov 21, 2006 |

An interesting discussion came up during a recent afternoon editorial meeting: how much is too much when it comes to disturbing stories of child pornography?

Bulldogs Avoid a Trap Game

7:16 PM Sun, Nov 19, 2006 |

Using a quick start the Zags put away the University of Texas San Antonio early in the first half and used another late game run to extend the margin of victory to almost 40 points. Playing an overmatched and undersized team, Gonzaga put together another solid defensive and rebounding performance, while once again getting balanced scoring throughout the roster.

Standing Out

11:06 PM Wed, Nov 15, 2006 |

Every day, in every newscast, our goal is to stand out from the competition. That's not always easy when covering stories we know the other stations in town and the newspaper are all following. However, two reports during our 5:00 newscast Wednesday did just that.

Heading to New York

10:19 PM Wed, Nov 15, 2006 |

Behind a very balanced scoring attack and another solid defensive effort Gonzaga beat a persistent Baylor Bears ball club to advance to the NIT Finals next week in New York City. With two impressive wins in the Spokane Arena the Bulldogs earned the right to head to Madison Square Garden for the first test against a true powerhouse, the University of North Carolina.

Zags Route Owls

11:40 PM Tue, Nov 14, 2006 |

Gonzaga jumped the Rice Owls with an early run in both halves on their way to a dominating 88-50 victory in the first round of the preseason NIT. Once again Josh Heytvelt was fantastic for Gonzaga, leading the team with 25 points and 11 rebounds, and getting the sometime subdued Spokane Arena crowd into the game early with an alley-oop dunk on the Zag’s first possession.

Giving credit where credit is due...

As a whole, I was very pleased with the newsroom's extensive coverage of Monday's wind storm. However, several people in particular deserve kudos for their efforts.

Zags vs. Eastern

6:41 AM Tue, Nov 14, 2006 |

The Zags were impressive in their debut against Eastern. The questions about who would step forward were answered by Josh Heytvelt and Derek Raivio.

I have a "Man Crush" on Josh Brown

3:45 PM Mon, Nov 13, 2006 |

If you are a Seahawks Fan and you do not have a “man crush” on Josh Brown, you should. With ice water in his veins, Brown steps up with 9 seconds left and hits a 38 yarder in the rain and doesn’t even look that surprised when it went through. It not only went through it went right down the middle. This guy has been the only consistent offense of the year. Josh Brown is my MVP so far this season. My “man crush” on Brown does not detract ...

Impressive Answers

7:11 PM Fri, Nov 10, 2006 |

Coming into the season there was no doubt the Gonzaga Bulldogs had many more questions than answers. The Zags needed to establish an identity in all facets of the game and through two exhibition games it was still unclear if the Bulldogs would be able to sufficiently find ways to get the job done this season

Welcome to Brian Michaelson's Gonzaga Blog

2:32 PM Thu, Nov 09, 2006 |

With opening night for the 2006-2007 Gonzaga Bulldogs only a day away I wanted to take a moment to introduce myself and give Zags fans a brief preview of what my blog will entail this season. I played basketball at Gonzaga from 2000-2001 through 2004-2005, and I currently reside in Spokane and follow the Zags closely.

Zags exhibition game

3:41 AM Fri, Nov 03, 2006 |

Life without Adam Morrison, JP Batista, and Erroll Knight began at The Kennel last night. No big surprise.. the Zags looked a little out of sorts at the beginning of Wednesday's game against Augustana College.
