Two on Your Side recently talked with a Post Falls woman who had problems disconnecting her Dish Network service. As a result, she says her bank account was hit for $226 for what was supposed to be a 30-day free trial. This isn't the first time we've heard this kind of thing (via phone & e-mail to Two on Your Side), and the government has plenty of complaints against satellite TV providers. Washington's Attorney General's office has about 700 complaints against Dish Network since 1998, and about 300 complaints against DIRECTV. The AG's office says some of the complaints talk about third-party salespeople. These are companies who sell satellite service on commission. Complainants say some salespeople promised cheaper service than what they got. No matter what a salesperson tells you, either in person, or on the phone, no agreement is final until you see it in writing. So read the contract. If you later discover something in the contract you don't like, you have 3 days to cancel. To protect yourself, send your cancellation "return receipt requested" to the company. In the case of the woman we interviewed, she took a salesperson at his word that he would cancel her service with DIRECTV so she could sign up with Dish. Guess what? He didn't cancel the service (in reality, it was the customer's responsibility to do that), and now, DIRECTV is billing our viewer for $1300. Talk about expensive TV! 3 CommentsLeave a comment |

I, too, have been cheated by Dish TV. My contract was to cancel within 3 days of installation. I cancelled on day 3. They said I didn't or something like that, and I had to pay for Dish for one year. I switched to the cheapest plan, about $25 a month for which they sent me a bill every month. I complained constantly, and got no response. In the meantime, I had gone back to Comcast, and had to pay for both.
As you can tell, I'm still mad, and would never recommend them.
Thank you for this opportunity to complain to someone who listens.

I too have had my problems with Dish Network. we were customers for over 6 yrs, called them to have them update our reciever and give us same deals as new customers and they would not--like a fool we tried direct tv for a whole 6 days---hated it, the receiver and remote--in mean time dish network calls and begs us to come back, made all kinds of promises and to this date, have not kept their end of the bargin when we came back to them. they are nothing but liars.
I have been recieving Dish Network for some time now and they provide fair service but since May we have recieved repeated calls from telemarketers wanting us to sign up for (surprise) Dish Network. I tell them (if it is not a computer call) that we already get Dish. To that I get an apology and (in some cases)am told that we would be removed from thier list. On several occasions that promise was followed up in a few hours with another call, again trying to sell us Dish. I have several friends who have experienced the same situation. I don't like the idea of closing our account because one of those callers told me they got my name from a list of former accounts. Seems I am doomed if I cancel and doomed if I don't.
