Spring has finally sprung, especially the cool rainy part of Spring. But now is the time to do much needed maintenance in the yard before things really get growing. First off fertilize your lawn. A good rule of thumb is to fertilize around the 4 holidays. Easter, Memorial Day, Independence Day and Labor Day. Labor Day being the most important one for a good root fertilizer. Some experts say that if you mulch when you mow then you don't need to fertilize as much. I tried this one year and I didn't get very good results for my lawn. So I mulch and fertilize. The early Spring fertilizer should lean more to green up the lawn. Make sure your lawn mower is tuned and the blade is sharpened. A dull blade will hack your grass and leave it with a brown tinge a few days after mowing. And get pruning. Everything from trees to shrubs to roses. The more you do early the easier it is later to have a care free yard to enjoy. |
