An Irish High Court Judge says he MAY make his decision on Fred Russell's extradition in two weeks. The case was delayed again on Tuesday. Russell is arguing he shouldn't be returned to the United States because our prison system is dangerous and he would likely be raped in jail. Russell submitted a sworn affidavit to the court outlining a series of death threats he received before he fled. The Irish Attorney General representing the United States and Whitman County argued if Russell was aquitted he would be free to move away from the people allegedly making the threats. He said prison authorities would make sure Russell was safe behind bars. The next hearing is March 28th. Russell has the right to appeal the ruling if it goes against him. We'll see what happens. |
