Another Gonzaga victory, another city to explore as we roll with the team on their now impressive run through the NCAA tournament in 2006. Salt Lake City was fun to explore, and now we're doing the same in the Bay Area. We're makng San Francisco AND Oakland our home this week as we watch the Zags get ready for UCLA in the Sweet 16. Oakland has been a nice surprise. They've put a lot of effot into revitalizing the downtown area and are being rewarded with the regional games. All 4,500 hotel rooms are sold out downtown and the extra visitors are expected to produce about $25 million in revenue for the city -- similar to what's expected for Spokane when it hosts the World Figure Skating Championships. Shoot around was fun to watch Wednesday, the Zags looked loose and ready to go, and more importantly, like they're truly enjoying the run they're on. Let's hope it continues ... I wouldn't mind headin to Indianapolis next. Sten |
