The top players for both teams all sat at podiums.. and were busy for the entire hour. Everyone from both teams was available for interviews. We couldn't believe how much attention some of the guys were getting. At one point.. Jean-Phillipe Darche was surronded by 15 reporters! Fifteen people wanted to talk to the Seahawks long snapper! I've interviewed him before.. and he is a nice guy.. but I would bet he didn't do 15 interviews all season. It was interesting to see how many people were trying to find different angles to stories.. and coming up with some really bad ideas. One reporter actually asked Rocky Bernard if he loved his mother. Really. Do you love your mother. No.. actually now that you ask.. I hate my mom. Wow. Also heard "if you were a car.. what kind of car would you be?" (trying to tie into Ford Field maybe) It didn't work. Actor Gilbert Gottfried made an appearance. His voice is as irritating in real life as it is on TV.
Media Day also gives the non-sports media a chance to get in on the Super Bowl. The Discovery Channel was doing a technology story on communication devices on the field.. and the Christian Broadcasting Network talked to many of the religious players about their faith.
All in all... it was an interesting day. People talk about how bad a day it is.. but once we got through security.. it was actually a fun day. Most of the players seemed to enjoy it as well. There were lots of laughs.. lots of players with video cameras recording it all. Now its time for business. The team is back on the practice field this afternoon..
