10 day Outlook

10:31 PM Fri, Feb 03, 2006 |

I've recently added a 10 day Outlook to the end of our newscasts. This product is intended to show the current trend of the weather over the next 10 days. It gives a range of high temperatures and if we can expect rain or snow. I realize that this outlook will change from time to time as a new model data is fed into the computer. There has been some debate among television meteorologists across the nation about broadcasting an extended range outlook. The main complaint being that it will change as new data becomes available. Therefore being perceived as less accurate. The flip side is that if computer models exist that give this long range information then why hold it back from the public. I'm part of that camp. Viewer research indicates that people want this information and realize that it is subject to change over the 10 day period. I believe that if we have information that can help people plan their busy lives then lets share it. As long we all understand that it may change as atmospheric conditions change. I hope you find my 10 day outlook interesting and useful as you plan your busy lives.
