Getting Around the Smoking Ban

We've done a number of stories on the smoking ban since it went into effect a couple months ago. Some bar owners say it's hurt business, while others say they haven't noticed a change. Either way, we've come across several unique ways some bars are trying to get around the ban.

Weather Seminar in Chicago

I just got back from a weather seminar in Chicago. First things first. Chicago has never been on my radar screen. It's just never been a place I thought of visiting. Well thats all over. I came away from Chicago with an immense appreciation of that city. It is a clean, modern, friendly, huge city. Granted I stayed downtown where all the nice hotels and wonderful high rise condos were but after speaking with locals they are justifia...

As I write this 13 days have passed in January and we already have received more than 2 and 1/2" of rain for the month. Some mountains have picked up 2 feet of new snow. Our snowpack looks good but this lower elevation rain is really causing some problems. So much rain so fast has caused creeks and streams to flood mostly agricultural areas. But some roads have flooded or have been damaged by the strong run off.

The last few weeks feel more like March or April rather than January. Valley rain has washed away all of our snow. On Thursday 1/5/06 the daytime high was 49 degrees. Crazy warm weather for this time of year. And it looks like our mild weather will continue next week with a few changes. The changes will include colder nighttime temps which will increase the possibility of late night or early morning snow. But any snow that falls should m...
