As we count down to Christmas, most people just assumed that our snow was going to stick around because of our frigid temperatures. But this is the Inland Northwest where weather changes frequently. It appears now that big changes are going to occur over the next few days. Snow then freezing rain and then plain old rain as high temps climb near 40 by Friday. If this happens our snow will melt. So much for a white Christmas. We can take solace though that our home heating systems will get a much needed break as we've had 21 consecutive days at freezing (32) or below. The smaller lakes and ponds froze solid for some of the best ice skating in decades here in Spokane. I used muscles I haven't used in years by ice skating these past few weeks. It was great fun and good exercise. I'm looking forward now to more mountain snow and some good skiing. Happy Holidays! |
